Former Army National Guard member and WNY Heroes President / CEO Christopher Kreiger was awarded a Purple Heart on Friday, November 11, 2011 before the Buffalo Sabres game for injuries he suffered seven years ago while serving in Iraq.

Chris Kreiger was inspired to co-found WNY Heroes - a veterans' assistance center - as a result of personal experience gained following a decade of service with the
Kreiger joined the U.S. Army in 1997 with primary military occupation specialty status (MOS) as a combat medic and secondary MOS as a member of the Military Police. During his first five years in the military, he served his country and others in several important security operations:

Fresh off the heels of a big win in Montreal, the Buffalo Sabres push for the playoffs made its way to VA Western New York Healthcare System on Wednesday, March 23. Defensemen Chris Butler and Steve Montador took time out to visit with Veterans from the Willow Lodge Community Living Center, located on 8D of the Bailey Avenue Facility.
